A silver model of a swimming carp signed Moriyoshi, on a lacquered wood stand.
Meiji period late 19th century, Japan.
The carp is cast and carved in silver in a naturalistic style depicted in motion, elevated from the stand and supported on its four fins. The mouth is open and the eyes are gilt with shibuichi pupils looking down. The carp is signed Moriyoshi within an oval panel on the underside. The rectangular black lacquer stand is supported on four short bracket feet and decorated with diapers on the side panels and scrolling flowers and leaves on the top surface.
