The bamboo branches climb up the body, the ends with two loop bamboo-branch handles, the raised leaves reaching onto the body, the base with the incised square hallmark reading ‘Zheng Yu Yong Bao’, or: forever treasure by Zhen-yu.

Provenance

PROVENANCE: Holdo Strömwall (1883 1979) and his wife Karin (1886 1960’s). Thence by descent. Holdo arrived in Shanghai in 1910, to work for B Dieden & co, selling Swedish paper to China, and later for Svenska Tändsticksbolaget. He was also an agent for the Swedish company AGA. He married Karin Stenström in 1917 and it was Karin who took a special interest in acquiring Chinese antiques. The couple stayed in China until 1938/39 when they returned to Sweden.
