Large Japanese blue and white porcelain charger
Early 18th century, Japan
Diameter: 60.3 cm, 23.8 inches
Charger with flaring sides, the centre decorated with a standing official beneath a maple tree, beside a boy playing with a spinning top and looked upon by a karishishi. The boarder incorporating pomegranate, Buddha’s finger (lemon citron), chrysanthemums and peonies attached to scrolling stems.
The reverse, undecorated, spur marks visible to the centre, being characteristic of Japanese manufacture.
